Homeboy Art Academy
Homeboy Art Academy (HAA) is a part of Homeboy Industries. It is dedicated to providing culturally competent arts education and community support for formerly gang-involved and incarcerated youth and adults. With a mission to challenge systems of oppression, HAA centers the life experiences and cultural knowledge of impacted communities, fostering healing and self-agency through the arts. HAA offers a range of programs focused on prevention, diversion, and intervention, including mentorship, trauma-informed workshops, and leadership development. Their unique approach, which incorporates various art disciplines, aims to empower participants to navigate challenges and advocate for social justice. Through initiatives like the G.A.N.G intervention and intergenerational art classes, HAA nurtures creativity and community dialogue, striving to create a just world led by those with lived experiences
HAA wanted to expand and build a new Academy with the intention of serving more people. Currently they serve 400 people but with this new Art Academy they can double that number. Our support helped them to compete the Annex shown below. We also supported their multimedia programs.
