AEVAS Job Skills Carpentry workshop

ORFL supported Evangelical Association of Social Action (AEVAS). AEVAS, a non-profit organization in Novo Hamburgo. AEVAS is dedicated to meeting local social demands and transforming the lives of children and teenagers through social, educational, and cultural actions. AEVAS is maintained by Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confessions in Brazil (IECLB) and through partnerships with local city hall and local people.

ORFL supported a workshop run by AEVAS called “Oficina de Brinquedos”. The workshop taught 17 teenagers aged 14 to 18 carpentry skills. It was offered to teens who are vulnerable to gang involvement. The project aims to offer theoretical and practical lessons to teach technical skills, improve school performance, inspire creativity, and boost confidence, responsibility, and self-esteem. It also provides qualifications for the participants’ future employment in the local wood processing industry, which currently faces a shortage of skilled workers.

This workshop was supported by the government of Brazil, ORFL and donations local companies. The companies provided materials such as wood and plywood for the classes.
